Styles of Writing


  • Almanac: A book of general information including historical facts, records, weather information and a calender. Also, a year book on a certain subject, such as sports.
  • Anthology: A collection of writings, usually by many writers.
  • Atlas: A book of maps and geographical information tables.
  • Autobiography: The story of a person's life written by the same person.
  • Biography: The life history of a person, written by someone other than that person.
  • Epic: A long poem telling the story of great hero's, real or legendary. Also, a novel or play that resembles this kind of poem.
  • Fable: A teaching story in which animals speak and act like humans. The lesson of a fable is found in the mortal at the end of the story.
  • Fairy Tale: A story of the adventures of supernatural beings, such as fairies, goblins and wizards.
  • Journal: A day-by-day account of events and observations.
  • Novel: A fictional story that tells of human experience through a sequence of events.
